I recently read Annette Karmiloff-Smith's 1992 book "Beyond Modularity: A Developmental Perspective on Cognitive Science". I should have read it much sooner because of its relevance to issues in evolution, development, philosophy of mathematics, cognitive science, AI and robotics.
