About
My current research interests are concerned with exploring the relationships between specific genetic variants (SNPs) and brain asymmetries as early indicators of inefficient emotion regulation as well as neuropsychiatric disorders in typically developing children and children with autism. To achieve that recently I awarded a £4K research Grant from the Hellenic Ministry of Education to help me combine multi-modal neuroimaging (EEG/ERP) and genetic approaches to map gene effects in the brain development.
I am currently studying this area of research as part of my PhD at the University of Birmingham, School of Psychology. I received a Master of Arts in Inclusion and Special Educational Needs from the University of Birmingham (2011) where I worked under the supervision of Dr. Steve McCall (VICTAR) to investigate the cognitive and behavioural overlaps that emerged from the loss of the visual input in autism and congenital blindness (Distinction). Previously I awarded a first class B.Sc (Hons) in Psychology, from the University of Ioannina, Greece(2009).
I completed my clinical internship at the Centre of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Arta, Greece and later I shared my time as an Assistant Psychologist in the Liaison Psychiatry Unit, University Hospital of Ioannina, Psychiatric Clinic) and as a Volunteer Coordinator in a NGO for children with intellectual disabilities in North-West Greece. I am an IKY Abroad Fellow after ranked 1st on the Greek State's Scholarships Foundation's nationwide competition.
