About
I am currently carrying out research for a PhD in Modern History under the supervision of Professor Carl Chinn at the University of Birmingham.
My thesis, which is being undertaken on a part-time basis with an expected completion date of 2014, is concerned with the comparative experiences of the home front and front line with respect to the Black Country town of Wednesbury during the First World War. Accordingly, my research focuses on the contribution to the war effort made by local industries, especially in relation to munitions production, and the war service of the citizen soldiers of the local, 5th (Territorial Force) Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment.
Prior to commencing this research, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) in Economic and Social Studies and studied with the Open University, gaining a BA (Hons) in History and Politics and an MA in History. My master's dissertation examined the social history of 19th Century Wednesbury, making particular reference to the impact of the Chartist movement during the years 1838-1848.
