About

Gideon Nisbet researches and teaches in ancient epigram and reception of classical antiquity, with particular emphasis on popular culture and subcultures. His recent publications include a second edition of 'Ancient Greece in Film and Popular Culture' (2008) and, with Niall Livingstone, 'Epigram' (2010) for Greece and Rome New Surveys.

In a former life, he was a researcher on the Oxyrhynchus Papyri Project, and retains an interest in ancient book-illustration; one of his recent publications proposed a re-ordering of the fragments of the Artemidorus Papyrus which is starting to catch on.
