She is particularly interested in political behaviour and how attitudes towards corruption and governance impact upon behaviour. She also has a growing interest in state-building and governance, and how political space operates in difficult environments. She has worked primarily on Africa, and Kenya and Ghana in particular, although her research on religion and attitudes towards corruption as part of the Religions and Development RPC (www.rad.bham.ac.uk) has also taken her to India. She is an active member of the Development Politics Study Group of the Political Studies Association, and is Co-Director of the Third World Politics Standing Group of the European Consortium for Political Research.
In addition, Heather has done evaluation and applied research work for organisations such as DFID, UNDP, the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Utstein Group.
