Thesis Title: The positional behaviour of wild orang-utans: interspecific differences and ecological correlates

Susannah Thorpe

About

Kirsten has graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with an MSc (Res) in Conservation Biology. She undertook her Masters project in the Sabangau National Park investigating the locomotor behaviour of orang-utans in a disturbed peat swamp forest. She has previously worked as a research assistant investigating orang-utan feeding behaviour also in the Sabangau National Park.

Kirsten is currently a PhD student at the Locomotor Ecology and Biomechanics Lab at the University of Birmingham where she is investigating differences in the positional behaviour of orang-utans on both Borneo and Sumatra. She is interested in examining whether the greatest differences in locomotion and postural profiles are at the genetic or ecological level.
