About
I write about the limitations of human cognition, such as faulty reasoning, delusions, confabulations, irrational beliefs, poor knowledge of the self, distorted memories, unreliable self narratives, and attitude/behaviour inconsistencies.
I am also interested in the ethical issues emerging from the contributions of science to society and concerning biomedical research, psychiatry, reproduction, happiness, and death.
I authored a textbook entitled "An Introduction to the Philosophy of Science" (Polity, 2008), and a monograph for which I was awarded the American Philosophical Association Book Prize 2011, "Delusions and Other Irrational Beliefs" (Oxford University Press, 2009).
I edited two collections, "Psychiatry as Cognitive Neuroscience: Philosophical Perspectives" (Oxford University Press, 2009, with Matthew Broome, among the Guardian's Books of the Year in 2009) and "Philosophy and Happiness" (Palgrave, 2009).
