About
Modern era (1800 - 1945) historian with extensive experience in university-level teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I am currently teaching at the University of Wolverhampton and the University of Birmingham.
I hold wide ranging research interests, particularly in the American Civil War 1861 - 65, the Anglo-Boer War 1899 - 1902, First World War 1914 - 1918 and the British Army 1900 - 1945. More generally, I am interested in how armies across the globe adapted to the changing nature of warfare 1850 - 1945. I am particularly interested in the development of the British Army in this regard.
My first book on the topic, provisionally entitled 'From Boer War to World War: Tactical Reform in the British Army 1902 - 1914" is due to be published by University of Oklahoma Press in November 2012.
